Navy Blue Corner Desk

Recently I scored this awesome Corner Desk off Craigslist.
I've been keeping my eye out for something to fit in this odd corner of our house for a while now,
when I saw this it was basically love at first sight.
I knew right away what I wanted to do to it,
As always I can never keep my house looking the same, I recently decided to start overhauling all my furniture, my personal taste has changed a bit and I'm not into the shabby chic white pieces anymore.
So my first step of bring some color in was this little guy;

BEFORE:

\

as you can see I had already taken the hardware off & filled up the holes with wood filler.

one of the reasons I got such a great deal on this piece was it was preeeeeetty beat up, definitely had some wear and tear but nothing a little sanding couldn't buff out ;)

AFTER:

I'm a huge fan of blues & greys.
Navy blue would hands down be one of my favorite interior design colors.
It's a neutral enough color but still gives a pop of color.

One of my favorite places to pick up cool knobs is World Market,
which is where I got this awesome brass & navy blue one.

I'm currently obsessed with this little desk & corner.
It fits perfectly and was just the look I was going for.

& the best part, no more scratches :)

I'm a sucker for some wood accent, I hate covering up beautiful wood on pieces so I always try to bring some part of it into my projects.

Isn't it just so cute?!

So there you have it, the first start to my furniture overhaul.
What do you think of my color choice? Are you as much in love with this as I am?

2013 ~ New Beginnings

I feel like it's time I come clean.
I am horrible at keeping up with this blog.
{but you guys already knew that}
I'm not here to have a pitty-party or anything but to be fair we have had A LOT going on this year.
Everything has just been one hit after the next.
We've experienced two deaths of fellow friends that has hit us hard, along with that,
my husband has been dealing with medical issues.
In his right hand two of his fingers just decided to go completely numb and he has lost a majority of his strength in them.
So add that all into the mix of the every day highs and low of marine corp life, work, school, ya know, the whole shebang  && you get a very very tired Jordyn haha.
{p.s. I have been sick non stop, this weather needs to make up its mind!!}
Blogging has just been low on my priorities lately.
SO, There is my long over due apology, I'm sorry!
But I promise, things have calmed down {I hope at least}
Sooooo, I'm back.
Because I'm determined that 2013 will be a way better year!

&& with that being said.

I have a project to show you!

A few months ago I picked up this amazingly old antique dresser.
It was in pretty bad shape,
even though the girl before me had put a lot of time into stripping the old paint down, it had a lot more of work to go.
After days of sanding {seriously} a bottle of mineral spirit, this baby was ready to paint.
I have NEVER experienced paint like that before, it just would.not.come.off.
layers upon layers upon layers of bubbling paint.
it was a nightmare.

BEFORE:

I love love love this style of dressers.
they are my absolute favorite.

You have no idea how long it took to get all these layers off.
But with an antique like this, it REALLY needed it.
The paint had bubbled and cracked all over.
And not a "pretty" bubble crack either.

As you can see, there was lots and lots of paint, it would not budge.
I let mineral spirit sit on this for a few hours,
then I sanded, and sanded, and sanded,
&& gave up when it felt smooth haha.

 AFTER:

I have a lot of white & grey furniture in my house downstairs,
so for this piece I really wanted to bring everything together.
I thought the white & dark walnut would make the dresser match better against my dining room table

Both this dresser//buffet && my table are antiques.
Making them the same color made it feel like these were apart of a set.

As you can see, I have yet to find the perfect hardware for this baby.
It is a lot harder then it seems to find something that looks just right,
& 8 of them in fact haha.

I am SO in love with how this turned out {surprise surprise, ;)}
It feels like it just belonged here.

Plus I love the contrast of the dark wood with the bright white.
{paint color is white dove by valspar}
The bright white looks so good next to my vintage silver accents, so it's a win win.

and it's not complete without a little chippy owl in the mix!
Remember that bottle candle holder I found while thrifting??
Well it's mate didn't last through my plane ride back home,
ever since I have been moving him around until it found the perfect home, right there on my buffet :)

I love the old key wholes on this piece, the gold also tied in the eclectic mix of finishes I have downstairs in my house; oil rub bronze, silver & gold.

And what's a buffet without fresh greenery && a yummy candle??
{calvin klein bitter sweet vine. he seriously makes the best candles ever}

So what do you think? I'm completely smitten with this old beauty.
By the way, did you see that my blog got a little re vamp?
I thought it was fitting, new fresh start to 2013 for my blog.
Also don't forget to check out my Facebook as well! I will be updating a few things around here on both the blog & Facebook page. Tutorials, Home Tour, Projects. ect. So keep your eye out!

Mint Green

Lately I have been color crushing on mint green. bad.
I always catch myself gravitating more & more towards mint green accessories.
It meshes so well with all the hues of grey I have in my house.
I will be sharing picture of our house soon, the purchase of a new couch turned into an overhaul of
the living room downstairs ;)
I have some awesome D.I.Y. posts lined up for that, but for now,
I scored the cuuuuuuuutest little nightstand when my mom was in town.
&& of course, I incorporated my new color love into this lovely nightstand.

This little beauty is available for sale in the show now.

Before:

I'm not a big fan on these nightstands in their original state.
they are just a bit too rich? for my taste.
It just looks too stuffy.

But I love love love the shape and character of this style!
I knew right away what hardware I wanted to put on it & what color I wanted.

Now she looks 10000x times better ;)

After:

I lovvvvvve this color so much!
It is by Valspar.
I don't quite know the name because my neighbor gave me the paint as mistint.
It has just enough color to it.

I decided to put some new old hardware on it.
I wanted to give it a different look then what originally came with it.
{which there was only one}
If you don't know what kind of pulls i'm talking about check out this post here.

Every single time I have furniture I get to sell I always want to keep them!
But could you blame me?!
I'm such a furniture junkie haha :)

These pulls were actually my old kitchen cabinet pulls.
If you don't remember then check out our kitchen reveal here.
I love that these pulls have history to them, it compliments this adorable nightstand so well.

They are modern enough but are still antique looking.
I think it makes a huge difference for this little night stand compared to its before.

You will be seeing much more mint pieces in my work coming up!
I'm currently working on a dresser that will be for sale in my shop as well in this color!
&& in case you forgot this one IS for sale;
check it out here with the other pieces I currently have for sale as well.

T.G.I.F!!
Too bad my work week doesn't end here ;)
I hope you all have amazing plans for this week & have a great day!
Happy Friday Everyone!

Sunny Days// Tribute to Lcpl Hogan

The Forecast for this weekend is suppose to be in the 100's.
*Cringing as I typed that.*
So I thought I would get into the spirit of the sun by re-vamping a table I had been neglecting.
I decided to step out of my grey color wheel {ha! grey & yellow the complete opposites in weather}
and broaden my horizons with a fun new color by Val spar!
While on one of my numerous Lowes Trips, I pretty much live there.
I some how ended up over at the paint sample wall for Valspar's new Summer colors.
This lovely little color was called Dreamy Caramel, but it definitely more of a yellow then a beige.
I would actually be pretty frightened if my caramel was this color...

Before:

The top had some pretty serious stuff stuck on it & tons of marks & scratches.
I'm not a big fan of the green & cherry combo.

After:

It was so fun working with a new color!
Once I put it on the table I was nervous to say the least.
But this pop of color is just what I wanted.

It is literally the perfect shade of yellow!
It isn't so in your face, it has a pale-esk essence to it.

I love the legs on this beauty!
I always feel so creepy saying that...but then I remind myself I'm talking about a table.
But then I think "wow, you actually sound insane"
Oh well. ;)

I love the classic lines mixed with the cute legs.
I'm not going to lie, when I first saw the table I didn't think it would come out so cute.
I was thinking it was a bit cartoonish/outdated.
But with a fresh new look it has completely changed my mind!

Another close up on the classic lines of this table.

I couldn't change the knob on this piece but I actually don't mind it. I think it fits the piece well, it makes it feel more neutral in a space with it all being one color.

I officially LOVE this color. I'm so glad Valspar had some pre-made paint samples or else I don't know that I would have chosen this lovely color!

This item is now for sale in my shop.
Please check out my Shop Page at the top of my blog in the navigation bar for price & details.
Pick up is in Jacksonville, NC.

On another note though,
For those of you who aren't my friend on Facebook {link here};
Last Saturday a Very good friend of my Husband's and I was killed in combat overseas.
He was due home next month, to say this was a shock would be an understatement.
Plans had already begun for his homecoming, If any of you would like to send your condolences the Hogan Family has asked that instead of flowers or cards they would appreciate a donation to the
Hunter "HD" Hogan Memorial Rodeo Scholarship.
Hunter was big into Rodeo prior to the marine corps & served as his country as Infantry for the 1/8 battalion.
If you would like to donate the scholarship is set up through a bank account at Corner Stone Bank located in Nebraska, you can donate over the phone or find a nearby location or sister bank. {link here}
Thank you all from the bottom of our hearts to everyone for their continued prayers & support for the Hogan Family.

R.I.P. Lcpl Hogan.
