Lovin' Numbers

Hey everyone! I hope you all are having a fantastic Tuesday.
Right now we are getting things ready for a party we are throwing this weekend for my Husbands 21st B-day!
It is going to be crazy town will all these Marines at my house, so I decided to take some time to finish up a few house projects I had been neglecting.
I had painters block {as I like to call it}
So I headed over to Pinterest for some inspiration for a dresser I had picked up for free.
Which is where I stumbled upon this picture on Pinterest:

{Dresser is from Anthro}
I loved the numbers and how much character it added to a normal little dresser.
Right then I decided my freebie needed numbers!

Before:

It use to have stickers on it because it was in a little girls room.

This dresser needed A LOT of sanding.
A lot is even an understatement

In Progress:

I thought it would be fun to show an "in progress" picture, this dresser must have had many different lifes,
once I started sanding I saw so many fun colors underneath!
White, Grey, Beige, Green, ect.

& after I finished stripping the paint!

the wood was in perfect condition so I couldn't just let it be painted!
So I opted to stain the top :)

Now for the fun stuff:
After:

Sorry for the lack of quality in the photos, this dresser found its new home in our bathroom upstairs where there is zero natural light.

I decided to give it a dark grey color to match the bathroom, & oil rubbed bronze hardware & numbers with a dark walnut stained top.

I love how much more storage this added to our bathroom!
We really needed a place to store our stuff and this dresser was the perfect size.
I love how much character this little piece has.

It looks like it belonged in the room all along.
I can't believe I didn't do this project sooner!
It has made getting ready in the mornings so much easier.

So what do you think?!
I for one am in love with dressers in bathrooms.
I think they are fun,
And add so much storage.
I highly suggest it if you have enough room in your bathroom ;)
Now I need to get some organizing done in my new drawers and cross off a few more projects on our to do list before the weekend comes!
Have a fantastic Wednesday.

xoxo

What we've been up too: Bathroom 2

So I went for it.
I actually chose a color.
Not grey, not white, no, Lavender!
I must say, I am sooo happy it isn't another grey room.
Although I actually had to convince my husband that we should do color not grey {ha! a man that has my <3}
I love the light feel of grey but, the lavender has the same affect!
It was the perfect amount of color for the small space.
But I didn't want it to be too powerful so we balanced it with white.
What you say? "balanced with white?"
Instead of explaining I will just show you.

But wait!
It would be no fun having a reveal without Before pictures ;)
So here we go:

Before:

Did you have a heart attack after seeing that orange and oak wood?
No? Okay good.
{Gotta love those awkward pictures where you can see yourself.
Btw Hubby was clearrrrrrly amused. ;) }

If you are my friend on Facebook or any social media network I am on by now you probably know I am NO fan of two tone walls.
Well, I can handle it. In doses.
But not on every single wall of every single room in the ENTIRE house.
*cringe*

Is anyone else thinking Cream Sickle?
I was SO ready to paint & demo that hideous oak mirror thing.
{by the way that wall that looks like it has a big white stripe is actually all white, whoops on my awesome photography skills}

So we did!
After:

Yuuuuuuuuuuuuuup.
Buh-bye Orange.
You will not be missed.

So this is what I meant by "balancing with white".
What do you think of the faux wainscoting?!

I loveee a minimalistic look so I didn't want to clutter the walls with tons of color,
I found these awesome pictures at Ross for $12.99 each!

We added a new light fixture since the ugly wood cabinet before had integrated lighting.
Just like the one in our other bathroom upstairs.

I snatched up these adorable hand towels at Target on sale!

Just like in our other bathroom I opted to just paint the cabinet white and spray paint the existing pulls.
This Rug was also found at Ross. For a whopping $12.99 as well.

Remember this little guy? He has finally found a place in our house!
Those awesome shaped round sides have an opening at the top {the surface opens on either side}
and is the perfect size to store our toilet paper in there! neat huh?!

So what do you think?!
It is a huggggggge improvement from the room before!
I still have a few things I want to do {welcome to the lovely side of having an interior design obsession, itneverends Sorry Hubbs!}
like some wall art on the wall that I did not picture
{by the sink/door}
&& I have a few touch ups to make on the mirror
and we need to install our new faucet!
But other than that we are about done with this room, for now. ;)

I hope you guys enjoyed your weekend & your start to the week,
I for one am too excited for tomorrow
our air conditioning is FINALLY getting fixed after a month of a constant 80 -90 degree temp. in our house.
My poor Washington raised self has been depending on cold showers frequently during the day and a fan by me at all sides.

I have no Idea how people survive in heat like this without AC!
Not looking forward to the summer heat in the Carolina s that is for sure.

Also! Don't forget to spread the word about my lovely blog & Facebook page!
Once I get too 200 likes I will be hosting a give away!
Because lezzbereal everyone loves freebies!

From Trash to Treasure

I'm so sorry about how much I have been slacking on my little blog lately.
We have major changes going on right now in our home,
I am SO excited to share them all with you!
I know I keep saying that, but I'm the type of person who likes to share a finished result.
Not an "in progress" shot. :)
But luckily I have some little projects that I am happy to share with you
while all the big stuff is being done behind the scenes.

This cute little number was given to me by a fellow Marine wife,
This has to be the most charming little piece I have done so far this year!
I was completely smitten when I was given this little beauty for free!
But before I had given it a new life there was nothing spectacular about it.
It just sat and collected dust in Cassidy's home.
So now for some pictures!

Before:

This was actually an "in progress" shot,
 I completely blanked on taking a picture before I started gluing away.

When I got this adorable table it had the bottom of one of those side openings gone,
&& two of the legs were off. It was in rough condition and needed some major TLC.

After:

I am so in love with how it turned out.
You probably can't tell from the picture but one of the legs is crooked,
some things you just can't fix.
But it gives it character, which this little statement piece is not lacking!
It has three little drawers, & the two sides that stick out actually open at the top.

I plan on putting this in our bathroom downstairs.
The side openings are a perfect place to store toilet paper.
(that part realllllllllly excited me for some reason?!)
Anyways, our bathroom is currently next on our "things to do list."
I can't wait for this little beauty to have a home in my house!

I will be back later this week with some custom furniture jobs I have been up too lately!
Can't wait to share with you all what we have been up too lately in the Pruitt household :)

Crackle Paint

Recently I shared with you all my bathroom redo.
Well when it came time to getting a mirror I didn't want just a plain ol' mirror.
First I thought one of those big antique ones would look amazing, until I started researching prices.
So while at the Salvation Army one day I stumbled across this gem:

{sorry about the picture, I had just started painting and remembered I needed a before picture :)}

Wanna guess the price?

They sold this beauty for only......
wait for it...........

3 DOLLARS
Are you as amazed as me?!

Anyways, I decided the white against the white vanity stand in our bathroom was just too basic for the feel I was going for.
So I used a color from a previous project I did for my bathroom.
A few weeks ago my friend Brittney was over and while she was getting supplies at Michael's for her paintings, I decided I would get some Mason Jars and paint them and use them as candle holders for in my lovely new bathroom, I came across this awesome color in the Martha Stewart Craft line, Pearl Aquarium.

So it was just a given that I should use that color as well for my mirror, but again, I wanted something different so I tried crackle paint. And I am just in LOVE with the result. And the color! It matches perfectly with my shower curtain.

After:

The pearl affect that the paint has looks amazing on the mirror,
it really is a statement piece in the bathroom because it just sticks out.

This project was really quick and simple to do!

All you need is:

* Whatever color you desire. I chose to stay with the Martha Stewart craft line since the Crackle Paint was from her line.
As for the black paint, I wasn't sure how much I needed so I bought that kind because it was only 1.99 which is how much the smaller paint pictured (Peal Aquarium) was.

I opted to get three different disposable brushes because the paint drys fast and you need to quickly add coats over the top of it to gain the crackle affect.
On the back of the Crackle paint are instructions for how to do it.
First you need to paint the entire base of the mirror in whatever color you want to bleed through, I chose black.
You want to wait for the paint to be dry, after that you apply the crackle affect you want to wait for the surface to be semi dry, by that I mean you want it tacky, this part was left out on the bottle but it is important to not forget it, once it is tacky then apply the paint you want to be dominant, for instance, the Pearl Aquarium paint. After that you just let it dry completely and there you have it!

A beautiful crackled mirror that looks aged :)
Heres an image of it in my bathroom, see, your eye just goes straight too it.
I couldn't love my mirror anymore!

Have any of you tried crackle paint? I hope you all have an amazing thanksgiving tomorrow! We will be headed up to NewBern to spend it with our friends family! Can't wait for all the delicious food.
I should probably go workout since I'm going to gain like a bajillion pounds tomorrow ;)
Hopefully the rainy day here today doesn't mess up your plans! Maybe you could spend the day crafting a project you pinned on Pinterest!

Out with the Old,

In with the new.
That phrase couldn't sound anymore pleasant to my ears then it already does.
A few months back we bought our house,
 it came with probably the worst wall color choices you could ever imagine.
In both bathrooms they chose 2 walls orange, 2 walls cream.
Orange?! like Orange?! Yes people, ORANGE.
As you can imagine it was awful and cringe worthy.
It wasn't even a good paint job.
So, hubby and I decided it needed to go asap.
So we started in the upstairs bathroom.
Mind you the bathrooms were outdated on top of the bad color choice.
I mean, medicine cabinets, orange walls, oak cabinets? No thank :)

Before:

We tried to make it look nice by filling up wall space and making the orange blend in with the art.

But nothing can make that medicine cabinet look good. Not even paint.
And those lights? Don't even get me started..

We had little to none storage so we made a cheap fix and bought one of those
bathroom stands you put together yourself at Walmart.
Not the most appealing fix but it was cheap until we decided to get the ball rolling with the bathroom redo.

Our Inspiration for the Bathroom was our shower curtain, our whole bathroom set is in this color pattern so it was just a given.

And now for the lovely new bathroom!

After:

We added shelves to give more storange since we took the medicine cabinet out,
Materials:
We bought the baskets at Walmart,
The shelving brackets were from Lowe's
& the shelves we already had from an old bookcase.

Taking out the cabinet made such a difference in modernizing the space.
The mirror was a fabulous find for only 3 dollars at the salvation army.
I used crackle paint on the mirror to give it a more distressed look to match with the rest of our home.
I'll post later on how I did that.

The wall color matches perfectly with our shower curtain.
The paint we used was City Smokestack by Color place
{can be found at Walmart}

Another picture of just how lovely the accents match the paint color.

I can't express to you all how much I am in love with our new bathroom.
Waking up every morning and getting ready in that Cream-sickle bathroom was just not cutting it.
Now we have a more modern bathroom with a vintage accent.
What more could a girl ask for?

Here's a close up on our shelving.
As you can see from underneath the shelves aren't that pretty but,
we spent no money using our old book shelf that fell apart as our shelving.
A few painted mason jars, some baskets, & some candles gave this bathroom just the touch it needed.

This picture isn't the best of our light fixture but you can get an idea.
The silver in the light fixture plays off well with the mirror.
We bought the light at Walmart as well. for only 29 dollars.
Which was a steal after looking at Lowes and Homedepot.

Also at Walmart, {I usually hate that store but I couldn't pass up the prices for this redo}
we found new hardware to match with the existing silver accents.

Total cost for our renovation?
$10 for our shelving brackets {Lowes},
$20 on paint {Walmart},
$4 on hardware {Walmart},
$29 for our light fixture {Walmart},
$3 on our mirror {Salvation Army},
$20 on baskets{Walmart},
&& finally $5 on our candles {TjMaxx}.
All of that for a grand total of 91 dollars!

Best 91 dollars ever spent in my book.

I hope you all had a great weekend! We've been busy around our house. We had the Marine Corps ball in Myrtle Beach on Thursday night. It was a great night, I couldn't be more proud of my lovely man! Being in the company of all of those men who have done so much for our country was an honor. Celebrating the 236th birthday on the Marine Corps made for an amazing time with great company! On top of our trip to Myrtle Beac, I had the honor to help a friend out with her new thrift and consignment store opening in Richland's soon and possibly a few new business opportunities! Stay posted for updates! I look forward to the many balls to come. I can't wait to share with you all pictures and the other projects I have been busily working away on.

Change is in the air

We just closed on our house about two weeks ago. I would be lying if I said a few years ago this is what I thought my life would be like, 18, married, a home owner, a car owner, and living the military life style. Would I change it ? No. But it is crazy to think of how I got where I am today.

We just got the whole house painted and new flooring put in, the whole house looks completely different. Here are some before and afters:

Sadly I forgot to take better "befores" of the carpet and linoleum but you can get an idea from the pictures,

Before:

the bathroom downstairs

After:

We plan on painting the bathrooms next weekend. Orange and White just aren't cutting it.

After:

Carpeting that goes up the stairs and in the bedrooms:

And if you couldn't tell from the picture of the living room, here is the new paint color:

Secret Passage by Valspar

The house is coming along! It's fun to decorate something that is my own, our house is definitely a work in progress but going good so far. We have big ideas for what we want and what it will look like in the end. Stay  tuned for pictures of the house put together and our master bedroom redo :)
