Warm Wood & White Night Stands;

You might remember awhile back when I shared our bedroom on the blog;

In that post I showed you all our bedroom night stands,
well I never showed you a before & after!
After living with them for awhile, I  decided to re paint them again {ha, not surprising right?!}
Actually, a lot of things have changed in our bedroom since that blog post which is why I haven't added it to my "home tour" page yet, so stay tuned for an update on that as well!

So back to the lovely night stands,
 I figured it was about time to share this little before & after with all of you!

BEFORE;

the original finish had come off A LOT & was peeling, but look at the wood underneath! beaaaaaaaautiful.

They were in pretty rough shape, but they were solid wood so I was all about it.
They are made by Broyhill so that was a bonus as well!

AFTER;

After Living with the original "after" of my night stands, I thought it was a bit too much grey & I wasn't happy with how they looked, I've really been into the two toned look of wood & a neutral color lately.
I'm in loveee with staining the drawers on furniture & painting the rest, it makes it more unique and less "store bought" looking.

& those crystal knobs? swoon.

Unlike most of my furniture, I decided to go with a Semi-Gloss Finish on the Protective coat,

I'm pretty sure these were meant to be coffee tables, not night stands, but I love having the "bigger" table

I'm totally in love with these but I'm a bit on the fence for if I like this look for my room,
Don't get me wrong they are adorable!
I just think I want to head in a different furniture style direction,
what do you all think?!
I have a bad habit of changing my mind when it comes to the interior of our house haha!
Hope you all are having an amazing week, hooray for it almost being Friday though ;)!!

Navy Blue Corner Desk

Recently I scored this awesome Corner Desk off Craigslist.
I've been keeping my eye out for something to fit in this odd corner of our house for a while now,
when I saw this it was basically love at first sight.
I knew right away what I wanted to do to it,
As always I can never keep my house looking the same, I recently decided to start overhauling all my furniture, my personal taste has changed a bit and I'm not into the shabby chic white pieces anymore.
So my first step of bring some color in was this little guy;

BEFORE:

\

as you can see I had already taken the hardware off & filled up the holes with wood filler.

one of the reasons I got such a great deal on this piece was it was preeeeeetty beat up, definitely had some wear and tear but nothing a little sanding couldn't buff out ;)

AFTER:

I'm a huge fan of blues & greys.
Navy blue would hands down be one of my favorite interior design colors.
It's a neutral enough color but still gives a pop of color.

One of my favorite places to pick up cool knobs is World Market,
which is where I got this awesome brass & navy blue one.

I'm currently obsessed with this little desk & corner.
It fits perfectly and was just the look I was going for.

& the best part, no more scratches :)

I'm a sucker for some wood accent, I hate covering up beautiful wood on pieces so I always try to bring some part of it into my projects.

Isn't it just so cute?!

So there you have it, the first start to my furniture overhaul.
What do you think of my color choice? Are you as much in love with this as I am?

What jute know about jute;

^ You see what I did there? I'm pretty cool I know ;) or just super nerdy
I've been dying to do this little D I Y ever since I saw a picture on Pinterest a while back.
I fooled myself into thinking that this light we bought from Lowes would be fine as is in our home,
 it was such a good deal & our light before was this hideously outdated fan with gold accents all over it so it just had to go. I've always know this wouldn't be our forever house so I try not to be very picky when a good deal comes up & we can update the house at the same time but with me being me I just couldn't look at this lamp shade anymore.
It was slightly the right color, but slightly not. But what bugged me the most about it was they didn't even carry the fabric of the shade into the inside, which its a huge drum shade so you can see the inside quite clearly. Its a yellowy beige & the inside was bright white.
Sooooooo, I dreamt {thats a word right?} up this beautiful image of wrapping it in Jute in my head.
We have a ton of jute rugs throughout our house, so it would jive way so much better & add a little texture to the space, which is never a bad thing in my book ;) .
I just waited a few months before asking the Hubs to take down the light he was so proud of putting up in the first place {loooooooooooove you honey!}

BEFORE:

I'm willing to accept that the before really isn't that bad & that I totally made it sound way worse then it really was, but guys, it REALLY bugged me how it didn't match like anything at all in my house.

It also really peeved me that you could see the seams & the plain white inside of the lamp shade so it needed something.

So here's some step by step pictures I took of the process while doing this.
{p.s. if you decide to ever do this to something, make sure you've got a movie on or a DVR full of shows to watch because it takes FOREVER}

I kind of jumped the gun & started but then realized I should show how I did this;
but it was actually super easy. All you need is a few rolls of jute. It took me about 3 & 1/2, which can be bought at Lowes or Walmart. They are about 2-2.50 a roll, so fairly cheap for such a big difference.

All I did was take the roll & start wrapping it around the shade, the first line I tied a small knot at the top & just kept going, that way it held it in place.

This was after about 45 minutes of doing this, and I thought my fingers were going pretty fast once I got the hang of it. I wills say though that the lamp shade itself is a bit more yellowy in person, I couldn't get a good picture of the coloring on my camera,

So basically you just keep wrapping, & tying once you get to the end of a roll or start a new roll, try to make the knots as small as possible, that way you can't notice them.

AFTER;

I feel like the darker color goes much better with the ascetic in my house,
& the fact that I have a lot more jute accents than that yellow beige color that I had none of.

My favorite part about this is that it is all the same the same color//texture, no more two toned light.
{which if you've read my blog for awhile you know I am not a fan of two tone that much ha!}

As far as light goes, I haven't noticed much of a difference in the light it gives off with it being more darker of a color & a heavier fabric//texture, if anything I think it makes it a bit better because the light really poured out of it before.

So there you have it, my D I Y Jute Wrapped Light!
What do you guys think? Do you like the look of it?
I know the hubs & I are diggin' it.
The look he gave me when I first told him what I was going to do & the look he gave me after it was done was priceless. He think's it's pretty rad. ;)
Until next time;

Washington

Hii!!! I feel like it's been forever since I posted something! {probably because it has sorry!}
I recently got back from a two month long trip to Washington, I was back home visiting family for awhile & before that my lap top broke :( So having to share the computer has limited me to when I can update & post but soon that'll all be changing!
But for now, I thought it would be fun to share with you all some of my photos from my trip for my first post back.
Hope you enjoy;

One of our first stops was Dick's Drive-In Restaurant. It's basically a crime to rob yourself of a dicks deluxe & a milk shake if you ever come to Seattle. It's the bees-knees. And WAY better than In & Out.

Next we stopped at Gasworks Park. One of our favorite places to go visit & walk around.

Everytime we've ever gone there has always been something going on, that night they had a Fire Poi Show going on.

After walking around Gasworks we decided to hit up the Great Ferris Wheel which we wasn't open when we were home last time. It was SO fun & not going to lie, a weeeee bit on the scary side.

{These next two images I took from Google so that you can see just how cool / / massive it is! I forget to get a good picture of the Ferris Wheel}

Picture from my phone before we went on the Ferris wheel.

Hubby & I one the Ferris Wheel

 The Ferris Wheel is located down on the board walk by the water in downtown. They also have games & a carousal inside a building on the boardwalk. It's really pretty at night time with all the lights. We love Seattle because we are night people & there is ALWAYS something going on.

Mukilteo Beach;

Mukilteo Beach Light house & Ferry

Rose Hill Community Center in Mukilteo WA.
This is actually where My Husband & I got married :)
It looks out onto the waterfront of Mukilteo Beach,

& this is a really cool old bus stop right next to my grandparents old house.
Which I forgot to get a picture of :(
My grandfather was a fire fighter & it was awesome to see that the new owners kept his fire hydrant fence that he had put up. If you live and Mukilteo & have driven on this road then you know what house I'm talking about across from Howarth Park.

& I don't know why but I've always loved this building right off the tressel by Everett & Snohomish.

& last but not least I here are a few pictures on the way up to visit my Father in Law in Sedro Wooley with my husband;
